Lead

Lead Testing Services

AMD Environmental focuses its service in the area of lead testing for lead-based paint on safe and economic ways to deal with lead-based paint issues while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Lead is a chemical element—a soft metal, it’s naturally found in the ground (or as dust in the air) and also was used in many consumer materials. For example, lead can be present in surface coatings throughout properties. Over time, accumulations of toxic dust can occur. If not identified, lead dust can cause physical and mental damage to both children and adults.

AMD Environmental’s approach to the lead issue is focused on awareness of regulatory changes and advising our clients about compliance and potential lead health and/or legal concerns.

Lead Paint Testing

Lead-based paint was used extensively as a surface coating up until 1978, when the federal government banned its consumer use. Environmental problems arise when toxic lead paint degrades (chips, cracks, flakes, etc.) into paint chips and dust particles. There is a very real danger associated with lead poisoning, especially to developing children and pregnant women.

How to keep safe

The best way to protect yourself, your family, or your tenants is to have a lead-risk assessment or lead paint inspection performed on your property. AMD Environmental’s knowledge, experience, specialized lead paint testing techniques and technology help us identify all lead-based surface coatings in the home. You only need to have the surfaces in your property inspected for lead once—with that information, we can help determine cost-effective ways to eliminate or control any future issues.

Lead Inspections and Assessments

LEAD BASED PAINT INSPECTIONS

AMD Environment specializes in lead-based paint inspections and lead paint tests.

Lead paint testing uses X-ray fluorescence (XRF), the state-of-the-art and HUD-specified method for identifying lead-based paint in housing. XRF is fast and non-destructive, and reads through multiple layers of paint (up to 3/8 of an inch) that may be built up on a surface. We use an XRF Analyzer, and perform inspections on:

  • Single and multi-family dwellings
  • Apartment buildings
  • Commercial properties
  • Schools and daycare centers
  • Medical offices
  • Sites under construction

AMD Environmental can fulfill all of your lead paint test and inspection needs, helping you understand and fulfill your obligations in a simple, timely, and cost-effective manner, whether you are:

  • Aiming to comply with federal, state and city regulations governing lead-based paint
  • Applying for homeowner’s insurance
  • Seeking mortgage approval

LEAD BASED PAINT RISK ASSESSMENTS

Abate lead paint and regain peace of mind
A residential lead-based paint risk assessment will discover any lead-based paint hazards.

AMD Environmental lead paint risk assessments include: a visual inspection of the dwelling, an assessment of building history, age, management and maintenance of the dwelling, use patterns, and the number of children under the age of 6 and women of childbearing age who reside or frequent the dwelling. In addition, our [certified] inspectors take a sampling of deteriorated paint, dust and soil for testing in our lab.

Ultimately, the assessment identifies lead hazards and provides an action plan for addressing them, which would include acceptable interim control methods and abatement, based on specific site conditions.

Lead is a soft metal, toxic to humans, that is used in a surprising number of consumer products.
